Lending Library at Union HallOn November 20, 2018, Callands resident Deborah Gauldin unveiled a lending library to students and staff on the front lawn of Union Hall Elementary School. It was the first lending library of four to be placed at an elementary school in Pittsylvania County. The project was funded by a grant awarded by Middle Border Forward, a Danville-based nonprofit. The book house was already filled with a few options for reading levels up to fifth grade. When the book house was unveiled, students were so thrilled and in awe of the beautifully painted house filled with books.
