Gretna High School student Sara George was selected as the high school-level winner in the Veterans Day Essay Contest through the Virginia War Memorial, an annual competition open to all Virginia middle and high school students, including those in public, private, and homeschool programs.

Sara’s essay, titled “A Virginian Who Served in the Military Who Inspires Me,” earned her a $500 prize. This year, the contest was proudly sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart – Department of Virginia.

In recognition of her achievement, Sara George attended the Commonwealth’s Veterans Day Ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial on November 11, where she had the opportunity to meet Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger.
