Gretna Elementary School was honored with an invitation to compete at the National Beta Elementary Convention in Orlando, Florida, held from June 27 to June 29.
The GES Beta Club brought six students to compete in person at the national level: Jessie Jennings, McKenna Martin, Haze Hubbard, Ian Mayhew, Reagan Parsons, and Bryonna Wright. The club participated in ten different competitions.
GES proudly brought home three national awards:
• Keileigh Shelton placed 9th in Black & White Photography.
• Bryonna Wright, Reagan Parsons, McKenna Martin, and Keileigh Shelton placed 5th in 2D Design.
One of the most exciting achievements came from the club’s Musicology team. After placing 1st at the Virginia state convention, the team was invited to take an online academic test to qualify for the National Musicology Quiz Bowl. Until now, no team from Virginia had ever advanced past this stage—until GES broke the mold.
In a bracket-style competition, the GES team defeated 16 other teams, earning the title of National Champions of Musicology!
This history-making team—Haze Hubbard, Ian Mayhew, Reagan Parsons, and Bryonna Wright—not only set a new record for GES but also made Virginia Beta Club history, becoming the first Virginia team to win the national Musicology championship.
