2026 Summer Meal Media Release
School is out, but summer meals are in!
This summer, children can enjoy breakfast and lunch free of charge in Pittsylvania County through the United States Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be offered through a combination of on-site meals and grab and go meals and will be available to any child in the community 18 years of age and younger. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
On-site meals will be offered in conjunction with the division’s summer school academic programs. Children must remain on-site while consuming their meals at any of the following sites and times.
Gretna Elementary; Stony Mill Elementary; Twin Springs Elementary
June 1-11, 2026 / Breakfast 8:00-8:30 a.m. and Lunch 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
Chatham Middle; Dan River Middle; Gretna Middle; Tunstall Middle
June 1-11, 2026 / Breakfast 8:00-8:30 a.m. and Lunch 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
Chatham High; Dan River High; Gretna High; Tunstall High
June 1-16, 2026 and July 6-21, 2026 / Breakfast 8:00-8:30 a.m. and Lunch 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
Grab and go meals will be offered when on-site meal service is not available. Three days’ worth of packaged meals that can be taken home for children to eat later will be distributed curbside on a first come, first serve basis, at the following sites and times.
