Davenport Energy Awards $21,500 in ExxonMobil Education Grants to Local Schools

Davenport Energy Inc. recently awarded $21,500 in ExxonMobil Educational Alliance grants to schools across Pittsylvania County and the surrounding area.
The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Program provides Exxon and Mobil retailers with an opportunity to invest in local communities through educational grants that support K-12 schools. Since the program began in 2000, ExxonMobil has contributed more than $40 million to schools nationwide.
“It’s part of our ongoing effort to support science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education within the communities we serve,” an ExxonMobil spokesperson said.
As an ExxonMobil-branded distributor, Davenport Energy secured the grants on behalf of its Exxon and Mobil gasoline stations and convenience stores.
Schools receiving $1,500 grants included Chatham High School, Dan River High School, Gretna High School, Tunstall High School, and the Pittsylvania County Vocational-Technical Center.
Recipients of $1,000 grants included Chatham Middle School, Dan River Middle School, Gretna Middle School, Tunstall Middle School, Regional Alternative School, STEM Academy, and Victory Academy/Ready for Success.
Elementary schools receiving $500 grants were Southside Elementary School, Chatham Elementary School, Gretna Elementary School, Brosville Elementary School, Twin Springs Elementary School, Stony Mill Elementary School, Union Hall Elementary School, Kentuck Elementary School, and John L. Hurt Jr. Elementary School.
Mount Airy Elementary School received a $1,000 grant to support a new playground project.
In addition, Sacred Heart School received a $1,000 grant, while Westover Christian Academy received a $500 grant.
“Davenport Energy has a long history of supporting local schools and considers it a privilege to invest our time and resources in the communities where we do business,” a company spokesperson said.
Headquartered in Chatham, Davenport Energy supplies gasoline and diesel fuel to more than 350 convenience stores, gas stations, and trucking centers throughout Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, and South Carolina. The company also delivers propane and heating oil to more than 35,000 customers across the region.
