Last week, 4th-grade students from all elementary schools were immersed in the rich world of agriculture during the annual AG Days, a special event sponsored by the Pittsylvania Soil and Water Conservation District. Held at the Hill and Dale Farm, this educational experience provided students with an in-depth look at the agricultural products vital to their community.

Throughout the day, students participated in a range of interactive sessions covering various aspects of agriculture. These included dairy farming, livestock management, horse care, conservation practices, forestry, wildfire management, vegetable production, and field crops. The event offered a unique opportunity for young learners to connect with the roots of their community's food and resource production.

Another standout feature of AG Days was the presence of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), which brought its heavy equipment and a state-of-the-art simulator to Chatham Middle School. This hands-on simulation allowed students to experience the operation of heavy machinery firsthand, giving them a glimpse into the world of construction and transportation.

The AG Days event successfully combined education and experience, fostering a greater appreciation for the agricultural industry among the students.
