Employee of the Week

“We’ll take care of it!” is the motto of Alfred Callands, Pittsylvania County Schools’ Employee of the Week.

Mr. Callands, who is enjoying his thirty-ninth year of service to the division, drives a bus for Chatham Middle School and works as a bus shop custodian/mechanic. Mere job titles, however, don’t reveal the full range of duties he performs.  Mr. Callands, a master multi-tasker, possesses a wealth of knowledge gained during his years in service to the school system that he gladly uses to help his fellow drivers and mechanics whenever they need his assistance.  Transportation Specialist Debbie Shelton echoed the praise heard from many others when she stated “Alfred is always willing to help do anything you ask him.  We are fortunate to have him as part of our team here at the shop.”

As evidenced by the sparkling condition in which he keeps his bus, Mr. Callands enjoys his job and takes pride in his work!  In addition to polishing his vehicles, Mr. Callands enjoys spending time with his family and friends in the Mt. Airy community and at Mt. Airy Baptist Church.
