Family Life
Mrs. Luci Satterfield, RN, BSN

Luci Satterfield, BSN, RN received her RN diploma from The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Mrs. Satterfield began her career as a Family Life Educator in Pittsylvania County Schools in 2008.  Previous experience working with children and adults in various medical settings, and time spent as an adjunct faculty member at Danville Community College prepared her for the role of teaching Family Life with an emphasis on overall health.

Mrs. Satterfield has also enjoyed being involved with children and youth through church activities. As a mother of four and having taught her own children in Family Life classes, each lesson is viewed as a parent.  Outside of school, she enjoys reading, traveling with her husband, family beach trips with all of the grandbabies, refinishing furniture and learning to sew!

Jodi Kapornyai, RN

Jodi Kapornyai, RN, received her Associate Degree in Applied Science in Nursing in 2004 from Patrick Henry Community College.

Mrs. Kapornyai began her career in 1997 at Danville Regional Medical as a Certified Nurse Assistant working on a medical surgical floor in the hospital. On this floor is where she realized how rewarding it was to serve and care for others. She became interested in being able to provide a higher level of care for her patients. In 2000 she graduated from Danville Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse and in 2004 furthered her career in nursing graduating from Patrick Henry Community College as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing experience includes Medical/Surgical, Emergency Department and in 2008 achieved her goal to work in Women’s and Children’s as a Newborn Nursery Nurse.

Mrs. Kapornyai currently enjoys working PRN in the Newborn Nursery/Obstetrics department at Sovah Health Danville. Welcoming a newborn is an exciting time, but as most mothers would agree can also come with its own set of challenges. She enjoys being able to provide specialized care and support to new families in our community.

This year marks her third year teaching FLE and believes lessons taught provide invaluable information to our students. She is hopeful that the love she has for children and the FLE curriculum is present every day with each student.
