Exercises
• 12 Math problems to be done within the time limit provided by the instructor.
• 5-paragraph essay on a general topic. Essay must be 280 to300 words and must follow standard written English rules.
The Daily Exercises is not completed until the student receives a score of 100%. The student, along with the Instructor, will review exactly where the student made the error and take the action necessary to correct the error.
Book Assignments
Books are written by Steck-Vaughn. Steck-Vaughn, also, wrote the practice tests that are used in class. There are only 5 books since there are only 5 tests in the GED®
(GED® is a registered trademark of the American Council on Education and may not be used or reproduced without the express written permission of the American Council on Education)
The book assignments are to be done in class, but occasionally books may be checked out to finish an assignment at home. Each Book Assignment is not completed until the student receives a score of 100%.
Individual Assignments
Theses assignments are given to help fill in some of the academic holes in each student’s armor. These assignments are to be done and returned to the instructor quickly to see if any further assignments are needed to fill in the spaces. The Individual Assignments are not completed until the student receives a score of 100%.
Practice tests
Before a student will be allowed to take the actual GED® test, a battery of 5 tests will be given to the student. The score of 470 on EACH test is expected to be achieved to ensure a successful completion of the actual GED® test. The Practice tests are given to any student who is eligible for the GED® at least 4 weeks before the deadline. The GED® is given to ISAEP students three times a year.
NovaNet
NovaNet is comprehensive online curriculums which extends individualized learning beyond the classroom and helps every student reach the GED® . Challenging and engaging all students are necessities for schools these days. With such a wide variety of abilities and learning styles, this can be extremely difficult to accomplish. NovaNet works for many types of students in a variety of environments designed for 6-12 grades.
NovaNet is a program which uses the student’s own answers to determine the number of problems that the student sees. Each lesson begins with a Pre-test to determine if the student already knows enough to skip the lesson. Then NovaNet takes the student through each concept step-by-step to make the complex understandable. The last part of every NovaNet lesson is a Post-test. If the student has mastered the concept, he or she will be allowed to move forward. If the student needs help on one or two aspects of the concept, then NovaNet will take the student back through just that part of the lesson.
Blackboard
Blackboard is an internet assessable program that is used to review the Daily Exercises from the beginning of school as well as an online calendar for the ISAEP classroom.
Mavis Beacon
Mavis Beacon is a learn-to-type program. Typing is a necessary skill in the 21st century that all students must possess.
Guest Speakers
From time to time, a speaker will ask to speak to students on the topic of their life experiences and current jobs. In the passed, we have had a director of human resources, a computer programmer, and an EMT.
Work Related topics
These topics will be in the homework, class work, or even Daily Exercises. The topics will be actual work events from the Instructor’s life or situations that others students are currently working through at their job sites.
Videos on GED® topics
Different topics concerning the GED® will be presented on video to be viewed in the class room. A preview assignment will be used to establish what the student already knows about the subject. The student will then have a follow-up assignment to complete.
