Dear Pittsylvania County Schools Families:

On March 13, 2020, Governor Ralph Northam closed schools in Virginia from March 16 to March 27, 2020, to help slow the spread of COVID-19.  During this time, Pittsylvania County Schools’ staff will continue to provide continuity of educational services and meals for students in need.  In order to assist students the following measures indicated below have been taken.

Pittsylvania County Schools Plan for Continuous Instruction

The Central Office Instructional Department and building level administrators are working collaboratively to ensure that our students have access to instructional materials.  Informational alerts are being communicated to parents via School Messenger and or Class DOJO electronic platform.  For students who did not receive packets of instructional materials at the close of schools on Friday, March 13, 2020, parents are being notified by the schools regarding multiple methods to obtain access via email, in-person pick-up practicing social distancing, or US mail.

At the elementary school level, students have access to their Envision math and Wonders reading workbooks in hand or prepared for distribution along with suggested assignments.  Middle and high school students may access instructional materials and assignments via Google Classroom and other electronic platforms.  Again, if Internet access is unavailable, parents may contact the schools for the designated times to pick-up paper versions of the instructional packets found online.  Parents who are in need of assistance accessing Google Classroom may visit the PCS website, click on the Parent Tab and access How to Use Google Classroom

Pittsylvania County Schools Plan to Provide Meals for Students

On Wednesday, March 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. breakfast and lunch meals will be available for any PK-12 students enrolled in Pittsylvania County Schools.  Meals will be distributed using a curb-side pick-up service at these designated locations: Chatham Middle School, Dan River Middle School, Gretna Middle School and Tunstall Middle Schools. Breakfast meals for Thursday and Friday of this week, and lunch meals for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week will be distributed at this time.  Meals for all students of all grade levels will be available free of charge at these locations.

State regulations require those who wish to take advantage of this opportunity to observe the following guidelines:

All occupants must remain in their vehicles during meal pick-up.
Meals will not be served during the week of Spring Break, March 23-27, 2020

Please remember to continue to practice social distancing and avoid large crowds.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends proper hand washing as the best defense in preventing transmission of the virus.  Please continue to visit the Pittsylvania County Schools website for updates.

We are looking forward to a hasty return to normalcy and your child’s safe return to school.

Sincerely,
Mark R. Jones
Division Superintendent
