Employee of the Week - Lauren Horne

Southside Elementary is proud to honor a member of our Tiger Family as Employee of the Week! Lauren Horne, our school counselor, is one of the most positive, professional, and dedicated members of our school community. Ms. Horne understands the vital importance of building relationships and supporting students. She stated, "Connections build relationships; relationships create community. We are a family. We step in when a student or team member needs us."
By embodying these ideals every single day, Ms. Horne builds rapport with students, staff, and families and is able to excel in her role as our school counselor. The title comes with a variety of responsibilities. In addition to providing individual and small-group student support, Ms. Horne is our school testing coordinator, involved in creating tiered intervention plans for students, our school-wide PBIS coach, and is just one "walkie" away from any teacher or student who needs her. She also collaborates with local churches and community agencies to provide resources that our students need. We are blessed to have such a talented leader on our team!
Ms. Horne is a native of Pittsylvania County and a graduate of Dan River High School. She earned her undergraduate degree from Averett University and her graduate degree from Lynchburg College. A school counselor for the past 15 years, Ms. Horne spent the first 11 years of her career in the high school setting before moving to Southside. Her greatest accomplishments are her two children, Lincoln and Leighton, who are also PCS students.
