Dear PCS Families and Staff:

Pittsylvania County Schools (PCS) continues to closely monitor the coronavirus COVID-19. PCS is collaborating with the local Health Department, under the direction of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health, to ensure best practices related to COVID-19 are being followed.

We ask that families and staff follow the measures recommended by the CDC as listed below:
  • Frequent hand-washing with soap and water for 20 seconds.  Assist young children in proper hand-washing.
  • Use hand sanitizer when soap is unavailable.
  • Avoid touching face, nose, or eyes with hands.
  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as telephones, doorknobs, tables, desks, handrails, etc.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or tissues.  Properly dispose of tissues and wash hands directly afterward.
  • If your child or you are sick, please stay home.  Check your temperature twice a day. If you are running a fever of 100 or more, follow PCS protocol and do not return to school until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
  • If you, your child or people you have been in direct contact with have travelled to areas of concern as listed by the CDC (ex. cruise ships, China, etc.), contact your school’s principal.

The PCS maintenance department continues to work with school custodians to ensure best cleaning practices are enforced.  Periodic updates will be provided as they become available

We hope we do not have to close schools during this period of time.  However, we ask parents to have childcare options planned should schools need to be closed for a period of time.

Please visit the Virginia Department of Health at http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/ and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at https://www.cdc.gov/ for additional information.

Sincerely,
Mark R. Jones
Division Superintendent
