Welding Project Supports Fire Dept

Students from the Senior Welding class at the Pittsylvania Career and Technical Center recently completed the rebuild of “RTV 21” for the Chatham Fire Department. RTV 21 is a specialized vehicle used for brush fires, rough terrain access, and public events. The rebuild will allow the department to carry more tools and equipment to areas that are not easily accessible by larger fire apparatus.

This project gave students the opportunity to apply skills learned during their first year and combine them with new techniques developed in their senior year. Highlights included blueprint reading and aluminum welding, two key skills strengthened through this hands-on experience.

This collaboration not only helped students build confidence in their abilities but also provided lasting benefits to the community.
