Professional Development
General Guidelines

• All professional development activities for license renewal require prior approval from the division. Please contact Lisa Parker for approval.
• A renewal activity should NOT be a routine employment responsibility.
• The Professional Development Request Form on the PCS website is not for individual requests. This form is for PCS activities that involve multiple certified staff.
• Please provide a completion certificate with your name, date and number of recertification points
• Microcredential certificates will note number of hours of points completed (1 clock hour = 1 point)
• 1 college credit hour = 30 points
• 1 contact hour = 1 point
• 1 CEU = 10 points
• There is a 5 point minimum for professional development activities for renewal options 2, 3, 6, 7 and 8. The following criteria applies:
• PCS professional development activities may be combined to meet the 5 point minimum during individual school years
• Non PCS professional development activities must be a minimum of 5 points, or a continuing series that collectively are 5 points or more
VDOE Statutory Requirements

These trainings are required for license renewal and can be counted toward the 270 points needed:

• Child Abuse and Neglect (5 points)
• Dyslexia Awareness  (5 points)
• Cultural Competency (15 points)
• Meaningful IEP (5 points)
• Building a More Inclusive School Community (5 points)
• First Aid/CPR/AED (5 points)
• Civics Module (5 points)
• Mental Health Training (10 points)
• African American History (TBD)
