iteach VA
iteach is a non-college program accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation focused on offering aspiring potential educators an accessible and affordable opportunity to earn their teaching certification in Virginia. Individuals interested in enrolling must apply for admission directly to iteachVA. Applicants must make sure they have met the prerequisites and have submitted their applications and all required documents directly to iteach and in conjunction with the partnering school division’s Human Resources licensure team. This program is only for individuals who will be applying for a Virginia license for the first time.
Prerequisite Requirements
• Complete the application process with iteach
• Seek employment with an approved partnering School Division (For the current list of approved partnerships, visit the iteach website.)
• Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (overall 2.5 GPA or average 2.5 GPA in last 60 hours)
• The completion of requirements for an endorsement in a teaching area
• Qualifying scores on the professional teachers’ assessments prescribed by the Virginia Board of Education VDOE Praxis Requirements

Provisional License Application Process
Upon completion of enrollment, introductory courses, praxis assessment (or special education course), you will be issued a “Provisional Letter of Eligibility” from iteach. At that point, you may be hired for a teacher position and the division will apply for your provisional license. The provisional license will be for one year only.
Documentation Required:
• Official transcripts (hard copy or electronic must be sent directly to Lisa Parker from the institution or transcript vendor)
• Praxis Assessment scores (Special Education only – course completion letter)
• Provisional Letter of Eligibility
• Copy of Statutory Training Certificates
• License Application and Fee
Once the iteach program is completed, you will be issued an iteach completion letter. The division will then apply to convert the provisional license to a 10 year renewable license.
Optional iteach Path
If applicable, you may choose to complete the Praxis Assessment (or the Special Education prerequisite for special education endorsement only). You are then eligible to be hired for a teacher position and can choose to complete the provisional requirements via iteach or on your own.
