Happy New Year! It is my sincere hope that you are
returning thoroughly refreshed and fully renewed.
Traditionally, most of us begin the New Year with a list
of resolutions in an attempt to improve our quality of
life. Recently, I came across an article by Richard
Koestner that provides some interesting facts about New
Year's resolutions.
-
50% of adults in North America will make a New Year's
resolution.
-
The top two resolutions are behavioral commitments
related to improving one's health namely to cease
smoking and decrease one's consumption of alcohol.
-
Most people fail in adhering to their stated New Year's
resolutions. Specifically, 22% fail after one week, 40%
after one month, 50% after three months, 60% after six
months, and 81% after twenty-four months.
According to the article, there are three (3) reasons
for failing to achieve one's stated goals:
-
Unclear and vague goals.
-
Failure to gauge one's progress toward the stated goals.
-
Weak self-control and self-regulation when facing
challenges that impede one's ability to achieve the
stated goals.
May I take this opportunity to say thank you to the
staff for staying committed to our vision of being
recognized as having an innovative, challenging and
exemplary school division. Indeed, our mission has been
to educate and nurture our students to be successful and
productive citizens. These are values and commitments
that have remained in the forefront of the Pittsylvania
County educational system.
The Pittsylvania County School Board held a
reorganizational meeting on January 2, 2012. Mr. Calvin

terms are effective immediately. Other members of the
Board include Wayne Robertson (Chatham-Blairs), Mr.
Charles Miller (Banister), Mr. Morris Stowe (Tunstall),
Mr. Don Moon (Staunton River) and Mr. Todd Sanders
(Westover). Regular School Board meetings will be held
at the School Board Administration Building, Chatham,
Virginia, on the second Tuesday of the month with the
time being set as follows:
-
The closed meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the
regular business meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.
-
An exception is necessary for the April, 2012, meeting
due to the Spring Break Holiday. The meeting will be
conducted on Thursday, April 5, 2012.
Disciplinary Committee meetings were set on the first
Monday of each month (if necessary) at 6:00 p.m. at the
School Board Administration Building, Chatham, Virginia,
with the exception of the September, 2012, meeting which
will be conducted on Monday, September 10, 2012.
