On Thursday, November 5,
2009,
Southside Elementary School held a Veteran’s Day
Program to honor those who have courageously served
America in the military. Mr. William R. Snead, Veteran
and 5th grade science instructor Laura
Snead’s grandfather-in-law, said, “I am glad to be
here today to be a witness for our great country.”
He served in World War II and was one of the men who
stormed the beach at Normandy. The Dan River High School
JROTC presented arms and lead in the recitation of the
Pledge of Allegiance. Also, 5th grade
students performed patriotic songs accompanied by
PowerPoint presentations for the distinguished guests,
students, faculty and staff. Mr. Snead concluded his
comments with these encouraging remarks, “You get
a good education and you can do anything with
determination.”
