2011 – 2012 Special Education Parent Involvement Survey
The Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act (IDEA) requires each state to submit a special education State
Performance Plan (SPP) and Annual Performance Report (APR) to the U.S.
Department of Education. One of the indicators in the Performance Plan
requires states to report: Percent of parents with a child receiving
special education services who report that schools facilitated parent
involvement as a means of improving services and results for children
with disabilities. This survey is not intended to measure satisfaction
with the special education program. It is designed to determine whether
or not the school facilitated parent involvement.
Your participation in this survey will help the Virginia Department of
Education collect the information needed to report on this indicator. In
addition, the information may be used by the school division in which
your child attends school but your responses will be kept anonymous and
never be personally linked to your child.
Parents who have more than one child receiving special education
services may submit one survey for each child receiving services.
This survey is asking you to reflect upon your experiences during the
current school year. If you have any questions about this survey, please
contact Gloria Dalton at the Virginia Department of Education, (804)
371-7420 or
gloria.dalton@doe.virginia.gov.
