Deborah Miller of Dan River Middle

Dan River Middle School (DRMS) is thrilled to recognize Deborah Miller as their Employee of the Week! Over thirty-eight years ago, Mrs. Miller was chosen to make a difference in the lives of children. Throughout her tenure, the journey of teaching has been most rewarding for both the students and Mrs. Miller.

Upon graduating from Virginia State University, her first ten years were spent as a Title 1 Reading and fifth grade teacher in Appomattox County School system. She then made the move to Pittsylvania County, where she taught at Central Middle School for 14 years. While at Central Middle, Mrs. Miller taught 6th grade Social Studies and language arts. When the new middle schools opened in 2003, Mrs. Miller became a Wildcat forever at Dan River Middle School. Throughout her tenure at DRMS, Mrs. Miller has taught 6th grade language arts and reading remediation.

After her dedication to God and family, her love of teaching has been instrumental in fulfilling her life’s mission. She feels the joy of teaching is so fruitful; because to teach is to touch lives forever.
Mrs. Miller is a member of the New Second Buffalo Baptist Church located in Nathalie, VA, where she serves as church clerk and president of the kitchen committee.

Mrs. Miller states that her most disappointed time in life was the loss of her husband, soul mate and friend, Gideon. They have two lovely daughters, Jasmine who exchanged wedding vows with John Arthur-Mensah in September of 2016 and Kelsey who resides with her.

Her philosophy of education is that every child is capable of learning at his or her own pace. There is no such word as “can’t” when it comes to learning! She believes learning takes on many dynamic dimensions and will go the last mile to make sure that her students are successful.

As a veteran teacher of thirty-eight years, many of the younger colleagues come to her for advice, but she admits that she has learned so much from the younger generation of teachers. Mrs. Miller, your Dan River Middle School family continues to learn from you each and every day! We love you and couldn’t be happier to be recognizing such an amazing educator!
