| Every school in
Pittsylvania County has at least one state-of-the-art computer
lab. Twenty-two(22) computer labs were constructed simultaneously
with similar designs and hardware. All were connected to the regional
WAN via either a high-bandwidth wireless link or a high-bandwidth wired
connection. The regional WAN covers 1,000 sq. miles. Each lab has
Gateway multimedia computer with 17" monitors. A few of teh
labs are shown below. The teacher has a wireless mouse and keyboard connected to a Gateway Destination system. The teacher's workstation screen is projected on a large screen at the front of the room from a ceiling mounted digital projector. All libraries have at least six computers with high bandwidth Internet access, offices are also connected to the regional WAN. Each high school has a science lab with computers at each station and a set digital sensors for direct capture of data into digital form. Automated digital weather stations are being installed at each high school and at our two mountain microwave relay sites. see our weather page |
