Pittsylvania County Schools...A Great Place to Learn and Work!

Pittsylvania County Schools is installing a new filtering appliance called, "iboss."  This robust service will greatly enhance the classroom and work environment with the features it includes.  While we are tweaking the installation, you may encounter instances where sites are now blocked which were previously available.  To this end, we will be providing you with instructions to request access to sites which are needed.

While no filter can give 100% guarantee to block sites which do not meet the educational standards of Pittsylvania County Schools, we are reassured that the ultimate filter in the classroom is the supervising teacher.  Step-by-step instructions are being developed and will be posted.

School Day Extensions:

Posted July 22, 2014:

The length of the school day will be extended for twelve (12) minutes [6 at the beginning of the morning classes and 6 at the end of the afternoon classes] for the 2014-2015 school year. This decision becomes necessary in order to maintain the integrity of the instructional program, remove days during spring break as possible make-up days, and eliminate the possibility of extending the school day to make up days missed due to inclement weather. The priority make-up days listed, if available, will be utilized first with the implementation of banked days to follow accordingly. Any questions relative to specific schedules should be directed to the appropriate school principal. (Division Calendar)

Excerpt from Connect5 Telephone Call to Student Homes on June 23, 2014:

We have confirmed that the General Assembly and Governor Terry McAuliffe have signed the 2014-2016 biennial budget. It includes language that allows Pittsylvania County Schools to open prior to Labor Day for the next two years because we qualified for a weather waiver in 2011-2012.

Therefore, Pittsylvania County Schools will open with the first day of school beginning on Monday, August 11, 2014.

Thank you for your patience and support of our school system and enjoy the rest of your summer!

--James E. McDaniel, Division Superintendent

New Work Order System
The web-based work order system for requesting Information Technology assistance has been updated. This new format is designed to allow more interaction between the technician and staff. Staff members using this new system will now receive e-mail notification that the work order has been entered into the system as well as follow up e-mails informing them of the status of their work order. Additionally, this new system will route the work order request to the appropriate technician who can then directly contact staff should questions arise. (More)

Military Families
In nearly every community in Virginia, there are children with parents or guardians on active duty with the armed forces. In fact, Virginia leads the nation – with nearly 80,000 – in the number of students with military ties. Virginia's public schools are committed to the care and education of the children these brave men and women have left behind.  VDOE, in collaboration with a number of military authorities, provides resources concerning children of mobilized military personnel for families and educators.
