INTERNET PRIVACY The
Pittsylvania County School Board is committed to complying with the
Privacy Protection Act of 1976, Virginia Code Ann. §2.1-377 et seq.
The Pittsylvania County School Division shall not collect
unnecessary personal information by means of its website, and shall
collect only appropriate personal information to the extent necessary to
serve its constituents and the community. Personal
information collected and retained by the school division’s website
will be maintained in compliance with the Virginia Privacy Protection
Act. Any individual wishing
to learn the purpose for which information has been recorded and the
particulars of its use and dissemination may contact the Superintendent
or the Superintendent’s designee regarding this information. Any person wishing to correct, erase or amend inaccurate,
obsolete or irrelevant information may do so by procedures established
by the Superintendent or the designee. The
Pittsylvania County School Division shall inform the public of any
personal information collected through its website by posting the
following privacy statements or a link to these privacy statements in a
conspicuous fashion on the website home page:

website has been established to enhance and support those functions that
are integral parts of the educational process.
As may be required for the performance of the function as an
educational institution data may be collected via the website for the
purposes of surveys, class registrations, training, requests for
community opinions and other matters strictly relating to business of
the school system. ¨
The
school system does not disseminate the information related to the
activities stated above outside the school system or use it beyond the
scope of its original intended function. ¨
The
school system does not collect private information for uses other than
those listed above. ¨
The
school system does not store “cookies” on any computer. ¨
The
school system has attempted to secure the website by imposing
restrictions on the use of universal IPs at the school level.
In addition, installation of a hardware firewall provides
additional protection for the system. ¨
The
school system does not collect any personal information concerning the
political or religious beliefs, affiliations and activities of persons
using the facilities. ¨
The
school system does maintain a log of the pages accessed by clients
logged on to the system as part of a comprehensive system for Internet
filtering and dynamic document review for real-time inspection of page
content in order to determine if the content of said page is
inconsistent with the mission of the Pittsylvania County Schools. ¨
The
school system provides training for each employee on the
Acceptable
Use Policy (AUP). The
AUP specifically describes the public and private nature of using
Internet access or system e-mail. Adopted:
