The Virginia Tech Math Emporium: A model worth emulating

Six station module: note extra work area.  A student at one station cannot see the monitor of adjacent students.  Very good design for on-line testing.

480 computers in a renovated Rose's Retail Store.   Most are Apple Macs with some thin client Windows systems.

Appropriate lighting is not too bright or too dim. Spacious aisles and a clean open design enhance the learning environment.
Red cups placed on the monitor indicates help is needed.  Student are on duty to help.  Printing is centralized.  All jobs are sent to one queue and printed at the center of the room.  Students pay 10cents/page.
Many thanks to the Math Emporium staff for providing us with a great tour and answering all our questions!  They have much to be proud of in this well designed and innovative facility.
