Our Community
Black History Month Activities
Each February, Mt. Airy Elementary School celebrates Black History Month with various activities all month long. Each teacher uses this opportunity to educate our students about the rich and varied heritage our country enjoys. The students then have a chance to demonstrate many of the things they have learned by participating in an assembly. We invite parents, grandparents and the entire community to enjoy this afternoon with us.
We collect several different "proof of purchases" for fundraising. We use these funds to purchase extra equipment and supplies for school. It's easy! Just clip, collect and bring them to Mr. Dalton at school.
Please help us collect: "Box Tops for Education," Campbell Soup Labels, Tyson Labels, and Nestle Pure Life Labels.
We have a carnival each spring. Our main purpose is to
bring the community we serve together for fun, food, games and a little fund
raising. As people come in, they buy tickets that can be used to buy food
or ride rides. Hot dogs, nachos and cheese, cotton candy and "snow cones"
are served all day long and the lines never seem to get any shorter. We
also have many games for the children to enjoy and information booths for
parents. The information booths provide resources on health and
parenting issues. In addition, Chrysler Drive for Kids Program joins our
fund raising event each year. They bring 2 vehicles and donate $5 for each
person who test drives one. 100% of all the proceeds are used to improve
our playground equipment.

Each fall, at the same time as parent conferences, we hold our annual Family Fitness Night. This gives students, parents and teachers an opportunity to check their health and learn how to improve it. There is a blood pressure check, a pulse check, skin fold check and a body mass check. We have special speakers as well to discuss health issues. Topics of discussion may include parenting, nutrition, bicycle safety, and healthy living. We also have many activities that reinforce healthy living.
Reading Night is held most years as a time for our community to come together and have lots of fun while letting our students know how important reading is to each of us. Reading themes have included "Camp-Read-A-Lot," a "Quilting Bee" and "Hit a Home Run With Reading" We invite local celebrities to join us in our goal of demonstrating that reading is fun and fundamental to the educational process.

The PTO would like to invite each parent to become
involved in the activities sponsored by the PTO.
