Guidance

Mt. Airy Elementary School has a full-time licensed school counselor in the building.  He is available for class counseling and individual counseling.  Parents may request the services of the counselor if they feel their child could benefit from these services.  School counseling is for school-related needs.  Private counseling may be recommended for non-school-related issues. The purpose of school counseling is to help students take full advantage of  school programs, thereby developing their potential to the fullest extent possible.  The role of the school counselor is: a) the counselor serves as advocate for the students; b) the counselor facilitates communication between students, school staff members, parents, and other agencies in order to enhance student success; c) the counselor serves students through programs addressing educational assessment planning, career development, and counseling for personal/social concerns.
