|Dear Parents and Friends:
The Pittsylvania County School Division is committed to excellence in education, equality of educational opportunity and the recognition of each studentís individuality. We take great pride in the accomplishments of the students and staff, and we seek inventive and creative ways of acknowledging their greatness.
As we began this school year, we talked of high expectations and lofty standards. Our vision is "to be recognized as having an innovative, challenging and exemplary school system." Each of us has a unique role to play if we are to successfully educate and prepare our children to compete in the 21st Century workplace.
|The Lamplighter represents a division-wide effort to reach out to patrons, informing them of the current status of our schools. Also, it is important for you to know and understand the challenges and opportunities that exist in Pittsylvania County Schools as we strive "to educate and nurture students to become successful and productive citizens." Information included in these publications are intended to keep our public informed on a variety of school-related topics including the success of students, unique and innovative programs, community partnerships, and our promise to continue the provision of a safe and secure environment conducive for learning.|
Ever-increasing mandates and high stakes
accountability for student achievement are among the focal points of
interest. I am proud to report that we are responding to the challenges.
All eighteen of our schools have met full accreditation status, and
Pittsylvania County Schools has made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in
accordance with the stringent requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act
of 2001 for two consecutive years. As Superintendent, I thank each of you,
patrons of our schools, for your continued interest in and support of the
students and staff affiliated with our schools. It is a critical component
in making Pittsylvania County Schools "A Great Place to Learn and Work!"
-- James E. McDaniel, Division Superintendent
