Description and Overview

Summer Residential Governor’s School programs are available for current sophomores and juniors for the summer of 2013.  Students are selected for attendance by means of an application process on school level, school division level, and state level.  The process is competitive with a limited number of students chosen based on the Virginia Department of Education quotas.

Students who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher and do not have a record of high school suspensions, may apply to one of the following:

  • Visual and Performing Arts (choose one category of either art, music, choral, dance, or drama);

  • Total submersion foreign language academies (choose one category of either  French, German, or Spanish);

  • Partial submersion Japanese academy; or

  • Latin.

Students identified for the academic gifted program for Pittsylvania County Schools are eligible to apply to any one of the above programs or to one of the following programs:

  • Mathematics, Science, and Technology,

  • Life Sciences and Medicine (juniors only),

  • Agriculture,

  • Humanities,

  • NASA/NIA mentorship (juniors only), or

  • Marine Science mentorship (juniors only).
