It was cup crazy at Stony Mill Elementary on
Thursday, November 17, 2011, as 487 students took part in what Guinness
World Records termed the "World's Largest Sport Stacking Event." During
the course of the Guinness World Records Day, sport stackers from all
reaches of the world were up stacking and down stacking various pyramids
in prescribed patterns at lightning speed for at least 30 minutes, all
combined with a variety of stacking activities. Sights were set on 350,000
stackers participating on this special day. Stony Mill Elementary students were scheduled for a 30 minute session of sport stacking on November 17, and had the opportunity to show off their sport stacking skill as they competed to be the fastest in three competitions: 3-3-3, 3-6-3, and the Cycle Competition. Trophies were awarded to the fastest stackers in every grade level. Sport stacking with Speed Stacks has been a popular addition to Stony Mill's PE program since 1998. PE Instructor, Katherine Blair says, "Every student can find success regardless of age, gender, or athletic ability---it is a great compliment to traditional sports instruction. Proven benefits include hand-eye coordination, focus, activation of both sides of the body and brain, dexterity, and cross-lateral movement." |
