The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce continues to support education as a cornerstone to the economic success and vitality of the Dan River region with its annual education grant program for Pre-K through 12th grade educators. The students will be exposed to cooperative learning, engineering, “co-opetition,” creative use of math and science with art, enforcement of deadlines, competitive strategy, and technology to plan, build, and program a robot to perform certain duties. |

Gretna Elementary Students will maintain a butterfly habitat and observe the lifecycle of the butterfly to understand the distinct stages some animals undergo.

Gretna Elementary A project based hydroponics grow system will be used to create collaborative learning communities where students can capitalize on their strengths while building skills across the curriculum.
“iPads for Collaborative
Education Across Grade Levels” iPads will be used across grade levels to introduce a more rigorous curriculum focused on interactive, project-based learning. Students will learn through participation in interactive group research projects versus the traditional instructional approach.

Gretna
High School and Pittsylvania Career & Technical Center
Chief Architect, an
instructional architecture software program, will expand the students’
working knowledge for advanced education and employment applications. The
software will result in students who are better equipped for today’s
changing world and postsecondary studies. |

Tunstall Middle School The primary objective of this program is to examine water use and issues in teaching students the concepts of Virginia’s watersheds and how to reduce negative impact on ground water as presented in standards of learning studies of Earth Science.
