Chatham Elementary Holds Seussabration

On Friday, March 5, 2010, Chatham Elementary School celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss with a day of fun activities and the gift of books for every child in the school. This was all part of our annual Seussabration week. Teachers also read books written by Dr. Seuss to the children during the day.

The actual birthday of the famous author is March 2nd, but on Friday the students gathered in the school’s gym with the resource teachers, and gave a wonderful tribute to him by playing games based on some of his books, such as The Cat in the Hat, Hop on Pop, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Afterwards, each child was given a book of their very own and encouraged to pursue their dreams, the way Dr. Seuss had done. It was a true delight to see the excitement in every child’s eyes as they received their books.

This event was organized by Mrs. Lily Turner, who has been the librarian for Chatham Elementary for 21 years. Every year Mrs. Turner does something special for Seussabration. She will be retiring this year and said that she wanted to make this year something extra special. No doubt, she achieved her goal. What a wonderful Suessabration we had!!! Thank you Mrs. Turner.
