Gretna Middle School Library

The library should be an integral part of the total educational program at Gretna Middle School.  The library is the center for reference work, as well as recreational reading.  The librarian will contribute to the learning activities of the students and provide resources for the teachers to enhance teaching.

1. The library will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.  Everyone is encouraged to use the library facilities, materials, and equipment; however, certain operational procedures are required in order to better serve everyone.

2. Anyone who uses library materials is responsible for repair or replacement of these materials if damaged or lost.  Students who have long overdue books will be denied the privilege of borrowing more library materials or using the computers until all obligations have been cleared.  Silent lunch in the library may also be imposed.

3. Books other than reference materials may be borrowed for three weeks.  Reference books may be checked out on an overnight basis.

4. Homeroom teachers are asked to distribute overdue notices placed in their boxes in the office and to encourage students to meet their library obligations.

5. Classes brought to the library must be scheduled in advance with the librarian.  Please discuss your plans with the librarian in advance of any large group work or assignment requiring library materials so these materials can be put on reserve.

6. Audiovisual equipment should be reserved at least one day in advance, if not more, to assure its availability.  All equipment is to be checked out through the librarian and returned on time as arranged with the librarian.

7. County films cannot be held over from one week to another.  Please check the county delivery and pick-up date and submit orders and/or return materials the day before delivery/pick-up.

8. Current newspapers and magazines are to be used in the library.  Faculty members may check out back issues of periodicals on an overnight basis.  Please refrain from removing periodicals from the library box in the office.

9. When a class is in the library, the students have preference in using the computers.

10. The librarian will not administer make-up tests or exams.

11. Students who continually lose library books (two or more times) may lose all library privileges for the year.
