Enrollee Comments:

“Virtual Virginia is very helpful in expanding my opportunities. Without Virtual Virginia I would not have been able to take AP U.S. Government and Politics. The teacher is really nice, but it is a lot of hard work.” Johnny Reutter- AP U.S. Government & Politics

“I basically live on the computer, so I love that I can take my class where I’m most comfortable. Working on the computer has given me a lot of freedom, which I appreciate, and both my mentor and my teacher have been easy to work with. Virtual VA helped me get my schedule together when I didn’t think it would be possible, and for that, I am thankful.”
Sky Padilla- AP U.S. Government & Politics

Virtual Virginia provides a much more enjoyable educational experience than a traditional classroom. The online courses open more class choices that are not available at every school. It is also more self-paced than traditional classes by having weekly assignment deadlines rather than daily. The instructors are easy to contact and very helpful. One of the positive aspects of Virtual Virginia is there are less disruptions because you’re not in a room with your class.”
Jessica Matherly-World Mythology I

“I like Virtual Virginia because I think learning off a computer is more interesting and fun than book work. I also feel more comfortable because there are not a lot of students. I think it is great that I can work at my own pace. I mainly took this class because I love being on a computer and I thought it would be more of a learning experience than just copying things out of a book. It is a great way to challenge yourself and prepare yourself for college so I say go for it.”
Alexandria Worley- Latin I

“The Virtual Virginia program is an opportunity that many do not consider or just overlook. It provides the chance to take classes that one’s school may not provide, or perhaps the student is willing to take a class that many do not know exist. The classes taken through Virtual Virginia are strongly independent and give the student a feel of how colleges work and grade by. The teachers are flexible yet provide challenging work and you have the ability to interact plus communicate with the other students taking the course. I personally would recommend anyone willing to go further in education to take an online course.”
Zach Glass- AP Art History

“Virtual Virginia has made it much easier for me to take classes I otherwise would not have an opportunity to take. I was unable to take AP US Government in the classroom so I was able to take it through Virtual Virginia. It was a great class and the online teacher was awesome. He was there to answer questions when needed and along with our mentor, the class was interesting to say the least. I am grateful that I was able to take a class through Virtual Virginia.”
Isaac Hammock- AP U.S. Government & Politics

“Virtual Virginia has allowed me to take more classes. The class has made me a more independent learner and I believe it will strongly help me in college next year. The class was great and the teacher was very helpful.”
Rachel Shelton- AP Psychology

“AP European History is not offered in the classroom at my school so Virtual Virginia has allowed me to take this class. My teacher and mentor are very easy to work with. The work is challenging but helps to prepare me for the AP Exam and college.”
Amber Moser- AP European History

“I’ve been in Virtual Virginia classes four times and I liked it every single time. I love having the ability to work at my own pace and not be held back by other people. It allows for the people who are gifted and talented to complete their tasks at an accelerated rate and for those who are struggling to take their time. I think that is an extremely important thing to have in a class room. Also, I love being several days ahead of schedule and having several class blocks to just read.”
Thomas Pillow – AP Psychology, AP European History, World Mythology, Creative Writing

I took a Virtual Virginia class due to scheduling conflicts. The class was a lot of fun and it gave me a great deal of flexibility. The teacher was very willing to help me in any way he could. I feel like I learned the information in a way that I will remember for a long time. However, I still prefer the in-class teaching method. I think Virtual VA classes are designed for highly motivated students who have the drive to succeed on their own.
Sarah Fisk- AP U.S. Government & Politics

Teacher Comments:

"Virtual Virginia students are some of the most creative, motivated, and engaged students I have taught in my career. Students get really excited about the opportunity to take interesting courses that they might not otherwise be able to take. Surprisingly, online learning enables teachers to work with students on a much more individualized basis. We are able to identify strengths and weaknesses, and target individual student needs. The notion that distance learning is impersonal is completely false. I know more about my Virtual Virginia students (their schedules, their part-time jobs, their college and career plans) than I ever did with my face to face students. "

"The best thing about being a Virtual Virginia teacher is knowing that you are helping provide access to ideas and concepts that many students might never have known about if it weren't for our classes. I'm constantly amazed by the high quality of my online students, and I am positive that participation in online classes is helping my students to be better prepared for college and life in the real world."

"Students please be assured that Virtual VA classes A-R-E N-O-T I-M-P-E-R-S-O-N-A-L. I always ask for photos of my students and they share many from prom to athletic competitions to spirit days and more. Sometimes our oral quizzes are just chit chat sessions, so I can find out more about my students and their lives. I believe I share a special relationship with the majority of my VVA students, one that we might not experience in the traditional classroom. VVA students at Gretna are very lucky to have such an active caring mentor who is an immense help to “our” students and myself. These students also challenge me as their teacher and I find myself learning right along with them. One of the best parts? Not only do I teach and hopefully inspire them, my Virtual VA students also teach and inspire me. Go Gretna High School!!!"
