2016 Piedmont Regional Governor's School
The Piedmont Summer Regional Governor's School is held the last two weeks of June. It is sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education and offers a variety of classes suitable for identified gifted students. The combination of small classes and an excellent teaching faculty provides students with an atmosphere that is ideal for learning. (Open House)

  • Families may text “FOOD” to 877-877 on a mobile phone, at no cost, to find the summer feeding site closest to their home.
  • Neighborhood feeding site locations can be found on the No Kid Hungry Web site at: http://va.nokidhungry.org/find-free-summer-meals
  • The National Hunger Hotline, 1-866-3-HUNGRY, operated by WhyHunger, is a toll-free phone number available to people in need of food assistance. Families may call the hotline to find summer meal sites in their area.
PK-12 Summer Institute May 23-27
The Pittsylvania County Schools' Instructional Team offered a PK-12 Summer Institute that provided multiple whole and half-day professional development opportunities for teachers.

Graduate of Merit Program Held May 12

Bryce Burnette receives the Pinnacle Award from Dr. Jessica Jones at the 17th Annual Graduate of Merit Recognition Ceremony held May 12, 2016. The Pinnacle Award is granted to the highest ranked Graduate of Merit recipient.129 graduates were recognized during the event.

Work Order System
The web-based work order system for requesting Information Technology assistance has been updated. This new format is designed to allow more interaction between the technician and staff. Staff members using this new system will now receive e-mail notification that the work order has been entered into the system as well as follow up e-mails informing them of the status of their work order. Additionally, this new system will route the work order request to the appropriate technician who can then directly contact staff should questions arise. (More)

Military Families
In nearly every community in Virginia, there are children with parents or guardians on active duty with the armed forces. In fact, Virginia leads the nation – with nearly 80,000 – in the number of students with military ties. Virginia's public schools are committed to the care and education of the children these brave men and women have left behind.  VDOE, in collaboration with a number of military authorities, provides resources concerning children of mobilized military personnel for families and educators. Approved & Proposed Policies Online
Approved Policies: The Pittsylvania County School Board Policy Manual is available for review.  The policy manual will be reviewed and revised as necessary.  The policy manual is also available to the public at each of the school libraries and at the Brosville, Chatham, and Gretna public libraries. 
Proposed Policies:
The Pittsylvania County School Board will be reviewing proposed policy changes. 

TeacherDirect is designed to establish a direct line of communication with classroom teachers and educators. The goal of TeacherDirect is to provide a way to share new instructional resources created by VDOE staff as well as make teachers aware of professional development and grant opportunities, and other information of special interest to teachers and their students
2012-2018 Comprehensive Plan Approved
A Comprehensive Plan for 2012-18 has been developed for the Pittsylvania County Schools and has been approved by the Pittsylvania County School Board.
